Thanks.. I will give that a shot.  Anyone know anything about a possible video-out plug in release date?  Or should I just stick to a dual boot?

No one is working on it, and no one has expressed interest in working on it in the future, so your guess is as good as mine.

Because the OF has access to a dedicated (Broadcom?) chip that does the video decoding in hardware. Rockbox has not managed to get this hardware working and has to do all video decoding in software.

Yes, it's a Broadcom BCM2722 video decoder/processor chip.
