Any way to play iTunes games on 1st Gen Nano?

(1/1)

Brian117:
I am pretty much jealous right now of all the games iTunes has for download, and is available for the iPod Nano 3rd gen, Video, and Classic.

Why can't the 1st gen play something like that? Could someone possibly port it over to rockbox and make it playable on the 1st gen?

Just very jealous that my iPod can't play any games besides the normal Solitare, Brick etc.

I know with Rockbox, they have games for you to play, but I can't really find a game I like besides Doom. (No offense to game makers). Just wondering if it's possible to port the games over to the iPod Nano 1st gen.

AlexP:
No, not unless Apple releases the source code under a GPL compatible licence, and this isn't going to happen.  You cannot port a game by looking at the end product.  The source code needs to be available, it needs to meet certain conditions (ideally written in C, no floats, no malloc(), ....). and it needs to be properly licensed.

Someone could of course write similar games, or find a similar game written under suitable conditions.  This could be you.

cool_walking_:
"Port" means you adapt existing code. We don't have Apple's code.  You probably mean "clone".  In most cases, this takes *much* more effort than a port.

Rockbox's games aren't limited to what what you see right now.  Rockboy lets you play gameboy games.  There are also some (unfinished, but in a lot of cases, very playable) patches for games on the patch tracker (link on the left).
