Auto-shuffle on Ipod Photo with dead controls.
« on: August 05, 2008, 10:59:21 PM »
My Ipod Photo kept having hard drive issues(that were fixed temporarily by a good beating), and so I decided to open it up to look for loose wires. When it was all back together, the controls didn't work. Well the lock works, and when its off, a click of the middle button will turn it on, but after that, in either rockbox or apple firmware, the controls are dead.

Doesn't matter to me much, since I have a Creative Zen(hoping for that port :P ), but I was curious as to if I could set Rockbox to automatically shuffle and play on start, and then just have it pause and play with headphone unplug. Volume would also be an issue, but there are headphones with that built in.

Of course I'm willing to take other suggestions for what to do with this brick. I also have a 4G B+W with a totally dead hard drive. Thanks.

Well, you can set the start screen to Resume Playback and you can certainly turn on Shuffle through a configuration file.  But that will only resume whatever the last playlist was.  It seems like a good idea to set Auto-Change Directory to "Yes" since I'm not aware of a way to specify the current playlist through a config file.

Alternatively, you might consider swapping the good drive into the 4g iPod.
