E260 @amazon.de 34.95€, firrmware version?
(1/1)
Jackie78:
Hello,
I have just got an offer from amazon.de, Sansa e260 4GB for only 34.95€, this is a very reasonable price, but I'd really like to install Rockbox on this device. The question is, how are the chances of getting a device with firmeware version v1? I have read in the rockbox documentation that v2 firmwares are not supported by rockbox, is that right?
Is there any way to find out which firmware version one will get before buying? Or are all new devices coming with the newer, incompatible firmware?
Thanks alot for your help

This is correct
Searching the forums would have provided the other information you are looking for: The only way to tell V1 from V2 for certain is to check the firmware revision number of the original firmware. I suspect Amazon may not be willing to do that for you :(

Just as a note, "v1 and v2" are different hardware versions.
The v2 hardware will actually be running a firmware version that starts with 3.

Thanks alot for your help, I have just one more question, although I know there is no guarantee, and everything is done when it's done: do you know if it will be at least possible to port Rockbox to v2, and somebody may have already started a project? Or are there hardware limitations that make this impossible or unlikely?
