Archos FM Recorder: ATA error -41 (HD or Interface?)

(1/1)

Tron:
Hello!

I have an Achos FM Recorder (swapped the HD to a 60GB one about two years back) and now I'm getting an "ATA error -41" error code. As I haven't been able to find a list of the error codes, what exactly does that mean? HD or the interface of the player itself? I'm going to get an adapter cable for the 2.5"-HD to test the HD anyway.

Strangely enough, I sometimes can boot the player and it starts playing, but only for a couple of minutes. After that, it freezes und throws the ATA error on reboot.

Sincerely,
Tron

LinusN:
It looks like the identify() function fails for some reason (Rockbox fails to read the information about the hard drive, such as size, PIO mode support etc).

It could be a number of different issues, like a dying hard drive, dying battery, or a broken connector.

Tron:
Thanks for the info. The original firmware tells me to check the HD, too, so I'll hook it up to a computer first and see what it does. It was a used drive anyway and I use my archos on my motorbike (vibrations), so its death is not that unexpected.

<some time later>

Hmm, the HD is fine. Not good, I don't think there is much to repair in the player itself...
