How do I enable hardware EQ on 5g ipod?

Title pretty much says it all. Version r18191-080803. Could not find any specific info in the manual. Is enabling EQ enable hardware EQ?

There is no hardware EQ on the ipod 5g. 

We thought there was, so Rockbox temporarily had that feature, but then we realised that only the first and last bands were working (i.e. bass/treble), so it has now been removed and there is only the software EQ.

The bass/treble settings use the hardware though.
