Want my e280 Rockboxed Again
« on: July 29, 2008, 05:20:05 PM »
I have an e280 v.1. ; OF firmware is 01.01.11A, I run windows XP SP2. I had rockbox installed, did a manual uninstall so I could reload new build. The problem is, and was (prior post), When I'm in MTP mode, the computer sees the unit, shows e280/PPI NAND/ "my folders" (I have MUSIC, PHOTO, PICTURES, PLAYLISTS, RECORD, VIDEO, tmp) all the folders are empty except MUSIC which has my songs (1666, 7.43MB). There are two additional files, VERSION.TXT and version.sdk. In MTP mode I can add and delete files through Windows explorer. When I switch to MSC mode, the computer sees two drives (H: and I:), properties on both show 0MG and capacity of 0MG. I cannot drag and drop. I get an error that says "file not accessible check path". Rockbox Utility cannot recognize the manual mountpoint (I tried both H and I). Any ideas folks? I really want Rockbox back so I can use my 4G MicroSDHC. I would try to reformat, but after all my research I'm stumped on "create sansa.fmt file". I understand how to go into recovery mode and put the .mi4 file in.

This sounds like you have issues with the filesystem -- I'd try to reformat the player (using the recovery mode method, not windows explorer)

Love to try a reformat. Can anyone link me to instructions that explain the reformat process, especially the cryptic "create sansa.fmt file"? I've looked in the sansa  e200 manual, the sansa forum, even "googled". Nothing tells me how to "create a sansa.fmt" file. I'm sure it's an easy step, just one I don't know how to do.

Just create an empty file however you want (e.g. open notepad then go to save) and call it sansa.fmt

Make sure it is actually sansa.fmt, and windows hasn't called it sansa.fmt.txt - I'd advise turning off the stupid hide extensions of known file types option in Windows if you haven't already.

Putting the filename in quotes e.g. "sansa.fmt" when you enter the filename in the notepad "Save as" dialog box makes sure Windows doesn't put the .txt extension on the filename too.
