I just checked original firmware and this functionality works (know that rockbox is other firmware). For me the goal is to change volume level without to be on WPS screen. Sansa don't have dedicated buttons to do that.
So, is there any other possibility to do it?

rockbox is a completley different kettle of fish to the OF... and we dont try to copy it.

It is possible to do, im just saying its unlikely
