Return to WPS
macku:
It would be really nice if Rockbox has option to go back to WPS screen after the backlights turns off, but only if something is playing.
I use Rockbox on Sansa e200. E.g. Sometimes when I listen to music, add some new items to playlist or change equalizer I forget to go back to WPS. Or if I press by mistake button that will go out of WPS.
Few minutes later, if I want only to quick change volume without taking player out of my pocket I can't, because the same buttons controls volume level and choosing items on none WPS screen.
It's no necessary to make this option by default but maybe make it off in LCD settings.
Greetings!
DancemasterGlenn:
Speaking as an ipod user, getting back to the WPS screen is as simple as pressing the "play" button. I could definitely see this request being useful, though. Sometimes I'm searching for a new song while listening to something else, and a song I don't want to hear comes on in mid-search. It would be kinda cool to just be able to press play to pause playback from anywhere without going back to the WPS screen (especially since I usually have "follow playlist" enabled, so going to the WPS to pause said song would then return me to that song's directory).
All of that would require quite a rewrite of rockbox code, I'm assuming, so I don't think it will happen. It's a nice idea, though.

hold play then... if your looking for a new song anyway then all that ill happen is the music stops and lets you keep looking for the song you want to play.
DancemasterGlenn:
Fine by me, thanks for the tip.

hmm... I should have replied to the actual topic...
AGES ago, before the main menu was created (and one of the reasons for it) there was an argument over which screen was the "main/start" screen. iirc most devs thought the browser was while most users thought the WPS was.
once the main menu was added it was easy to let the user set which he wants, now as for going [back] to the WPS when the lcd turns off... its the same argument.. also we have a general rule that we try not to allow the screen to change without the user knowing... so its unlikly that this would be implemented.
also, its not fool proof, plenty of screens are impossible to easily leave and jump straight to the WPS so it might not be consistant...
