h120 dead
« on: July 26, 2008, 07:24:42 AM »
hi,

i run an h120 with rockbox for quite some time and i love my player (especially for recording) - my HD broke down once and i successfully replaced it with a new one.

i now got a broken h120 from a friend, and I would love to get it working again.

the player was also running rockbox, it now doesn't boot at all - absolutely nothing happens when attempted to turn on.
the HD is fine, I put it into my other player, and the green light goes on when one plugs in the charger.

I recall reading something about iriver default problems with the usb or HD connection and soldering, but I can't find the post anymore.
could someone please give me a few ideas what to try in order to attempt to repair the player?

thank you, phil

There are a few possibilities on this.  My H120 exhibits similar behavior, but in my case it was caused by someone inserting a charger with the wrong polarity.  There's a thread over at misticriver that might be helpful: http://www.misticriver.net/forums/iriver-h1xx-series/44799-repair-fried-players-maybe-possible.html
