.swf Flash Media Player? a proposal
weehooherod:
please everyone, We could all convert .swf files into video and be done with it. The useful part of the swf player would be for games, or in my case soundboards.
Leniux:
Simple fix, there is an encoder for the .flv and .swf extensions.
Google thid program and install it. Its WinFF. It has been configured for the all-so-kick-butt RockBox! and you can choose what MediaPLayer you are hosting RockBox on.
weehooherod:
we all know about winFF. but you cannot convert a game or a soundboard into a video. This is why we need a .swf player.
safetydan:
A general Flash player is possible in Rockbox, but there'd be a few issues.
1. Speed. Not a lot of Rockbox targets are going to be fast enough to run the ActionScript VM let alone any of the fancy graphical stuff that Flash makes available.
2. Most Flash files will be designed for far larger screens than are on your typical Rockbox target. I think the biggest screen resolution we have is 320x200 and I doubt there's many Flash games or otherwise that are that small.
3. Mapping input from buttons available on a Rockbox device to Flash would also prevent a problem.
and probably other issues as well.
shotofadds:
Many QVGA phones and MP3 players do include a Flash player, so I don't think these issues are insurmountable for our larger-screened targets, if somebody were to take an interest in doing so. There are plenty of Flash apps written for 320x240 screens, but I wouldn't expect to find many written for a smaller screen, if any at all.
Speed is a valid concern - even on a relatively high-powered device like the Cowon D2 the performance of the OF's Flash player is poor for all but the simplest games.
