Browse database on my PC?

(1/1)

troleman:
Hi

I thought maybe someone had asked this question before but I've searched and can't find the answer.

Is the database custom software or is it based on a standard tool? Is it possible to use a standard tool to access it? For example, could I copy it to my PC and load it into a spreadsheet or use an SQL tool to manipulate it? Or maybe the developers have some tools they have developed to query it?

GodEater:
It's custom.

There used to be a perl script which could *build* it on your PC for your DAP, but a) even it if it's still around somewhere, it's horribly out of date, and b) it wouldn't allow you to browse it anyway.

pondlife:
If you build a simulator it can be made to access your devices database using the --root option.

e.g.  rockboxui.exe --root D:

Not that this helps with automated access...

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply. Looks like if I want it I would have to do it myself. Is there a description anywhere of the file layout?

AlexP:
I would guess (and I know this sounds trite) that the only description is in the code itself in Rockbox that builds the database.  Hopefully I'm wrong....
