iPod Dock Troubles (SOLVED)
« on: July 23, 2008, 01:25:35 AM »
I have iPod 4th gen Grayscale that I use Rockbox r18113 on. The battery in the iPod does not last very long so I have it connected to mains power all the time.

I have a iPod dock which came with the unit which has line out (no remote)
I also have an after market power adaptor which I got from eBay.

When I have the iPod connected to the dock (preferred, I like the iPod standing up and line out on the dock) it plays up. It will randomly stop during a song and then keep restarting.

If I use the after market power pack and the headphone socket it works fine.

Is this a known problem (a limitation of rockbox's USB driver perhaps) ?

If it is a known problem is there any way to get it to work reliably (Like a patch of some sort) ?

Thanks...

I don't understand what you mean when you say "it plays up" ... and I've never heard of ipods randomly stopping and restarting songs due to being in a dock, but perhaps you should check out http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=17841.0

Ok I will try to make my post clearer:

Obviously I do not (and can not) use both the dock and the power adaptor at the same time  :P.

It is not just the song that restarts it is the whole iPod. (Rockbox). I have not tried the original Apple firmware as I would have to put all my music back on again using iTunes.

Thank you I will give that a go.

It sounds like Rockbox may be intermittently detecting USB and attempting to reboot into Disk Mode.  Is this new behavior or has it always behaved this way?

Sounds plausible...

I have not been using Rockbox for very long but it ONLY (and ALWAYS) happens when the iPod is connected to the apple dock.

I updated to version r18116, same thing happens.

I wanted to try the unsupported build at

http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=17841.0

But no build for my iPod exist.

** EDIT **

It looks like a faulty power supply was the problem, had it going in the dock for quite a few hours with out any problems when using the aftermarket power supply to power the dock.
