[.Solved.] Important Rockbox Boot question.
« on: July 19, 2008, 10:47:55 PM »
Is there any way to make my ipod boot the original firmware by default, and only boot rockbox when i need it to?

I like using itunes to organize music, play purchased games, etc.

I only want rockbox for the gb emulator and ability to play ogg media.

If there is a way to do this i would love to know, thanks!

Edit the bootloader to have the boot order reversed, or find a bootloader build with it already reversed (no idea if one exists or not).

No, the bootloader is the tiny program you installed with ipodpatcher, and is the part which boots what you find in the ./.rockbox directory.
You will need to download the source code, make the change, and compile the bootloader yourself.

Rockbox will never officially release a default-to-Apple bootloader.
You really don't need one, as once you are in the Apple firmware you will stay in the Apple firmware until the player shuts down all the way (which is only after days of inactivity, normally it enters a low-power "sleep").

I do not understand your use of the word "still" in this context as Menu does not currently load Rockbox.
That being said, if you change the boot order, it would only make sense to reassign Menu to the loading of Rockbox.

Thank you very much.

I understand this subject much better now, there really is not enough need to do what i was thinking because the fact the ipod firmware will remain loaded.  Thanks again! There are finally enough pros to use Rockbox!
