Video 30G with 80GB HD

OK, thanks, I think, I will try it.
Will post my experiences ASAP :>

Just a quick update after much playing about...
I tried 3 different 30G logic boards (all good) with an 80GB HD and only one actually works 100% of the time. The other two just hang at the boot up with the dim apple logo lurking in the background.
Don't ask me why... but in practice there are issues.

lostcause, thanks for the information about this. Can you not boot into Disk Mode on all of them? When you say only one works 100% of the time does this mean that the others work intermittently? If you can figure out specific conditions that lead this not to work then I think this information should be included on the HardDriveReplacement page.

Another opinion:
--- Quote ---The 2nd version of the 5th gen models are a 5.5 version which is shown at the bottom of the 'about'menu. Also the model serial numbers finish in either V9M OR V9K depending on the colour. these models can be upgraded from 30gb to 60/80gb.
--- End quote ---

Hi, sorry for not getting back sooner.... been fixing another iPod ;D
Anyway....
The one that boots with an 80GB HD does not have the above suffix or any indication of being 5.5.
The other two will boot as normal with 30GB HD's but as soon as you pop the 80GB in .... HANG!
No diskmode either although you can go into diagnostics and run smart data etc with no issues..
So there you go... Why? I have no idea! All I know is that I now have an 80GB Rockboxed super iPod playing FLAC heaven.
Thanks for the brilliant work guys, you totally rock. 8)
