Can't install--failed to add bootloader
« on: July 17, 2008, 04:39:40 AM »
I installed rockbox with this ipod(5.5Gen,30GB)
But now(after I upgraded the firmware into 1.23 and re-formated it )when I try to install rockbox using rockbox utility,(using all the options the program provides) it ends up saying "failed to add bootloader"

I tried to install bootloader through Ipod patcher but  it ends up like
"failed to read from disk..."/"failed to move images"
(stuff like that)

I'm stuck--plz help. I looked everywhere in this forum but can't find any good stuff for me....

Plz do not use plz here -- our posting guidelines ask you to use real words, and upon signup for the forums you agreed following them.

As for your problem, please check if you have issues with your cable -- i.e. a (possibly) partly broken cable (try to use a different one) or issues with the USB port. Make sure there is no hub between computer and Ipod and do not use front usb ports -- there have been reports with bootloader installations failing under this circumstances. It seems that some PCs have rather bad cabling especially to front hubs.

well... my problem is a different one...

my ipod's partition is completely messed up(but I can run nornal apple OS) and I can't use 4gb of space or install rockbox.
( I found this out when my ipod's capacity and usable capacity did not match)
this is sad... no wonder formating did not work.
(I've done it about five times...with windows, with itunes recovery,...still no avail.)

for me also the same probl
and how to find the version for ipod classic this is equal to ipod gen 5 vesion
No, no no no.
The iPod Classic has nothing in common with the Gen 5 video except physical appearance.  They are completely different hardware and Rockbox does not work on the Classic.

And what iPod do you have? We need information to help you - we're not mindreaders unfortunately.

Are you absolutely sure it's not an iPod Classic?

Smooth and flat plastic front in either gloss white or gloss black with a stainless steel back = 5th or 5.5th gen.
Anodized aluminum all around = 6th gen, the "Classic".

I'm also having this problem. I've even tried reformatting my iPod. I was previously using Loader2, but now can't get either to work.

Could the problem be that I am on Vista 64-bit?

Scratch that whole question. I used iTunes (curses I had to install it) and restored my iPod. The Rockbox Utility worked beautifully after the restore, except the Theme Installation portion cannot find Themes when it attempts to download them from the website. I can confirm functionality on Vista 64-bit.

Currently, you need to manually install themes.  You can find your way to some themes if you follow the "extras" link in the sidebar.

Yeah I've got some downloaded. Was just trying to use the Utility to speed up the process.

I am 100% sure.. I know what i am buying. I actually can read what there is writhed at the box i get.. Ans maybe the best argument; i got my ipod before there was anything called "ipod classic" in the stores. So yes, i am sure it is a 5.5 G ;)

I have tried to restore my ipod with itunes in windows. But it didn't helped.
