installation problem
« on: July 16, 2008, 12:24:53 AM »
Hi

I was trying to install on my video ipod..and i dont think i have installed it properly on to this device using my macbook...and so now my ipod screen reads

Rockbox Bootloader
version 2.0
IPOD version:
TOSHIBA
Partition:
Loading Linux...
Error!
Can't load linux.bin
File not found
Hold MENU+SELECT to reboot
Hold SELECT+PLAY for disk mode

But now nothing seems to be working...what should be done to get it back to previous functionality
and/or get rockbox onto it..?

What install instructions did you follow? There are several things about that message that are abnormal (the IPOD version:, TOSHIBA and Partition: lines aren't appearing as normal unless you've left out information, and it shouldn't say "Loading Linux" unless you're holding Play while it boots)

I have downloaded the rockbox utility that is available on the website..
then i followed all the tabs that on the rockbox utility window..
and i used the simple installation and manually selected my ipod for detection...

i tried to reboot it and even before i could get to the diskmode..it rebooted and now it says..everything the same except that in place of linux.bin it says rockbox.ipod and Loading Rockbox in place of Loading Linux and yes i have left ut the information

Find the file "rockbox.ipod" on your iPod. Where is it located, exactly?

You need to reboot into disk mode by following the instructions the screen was telling you.

It means you never performed a complete install in the first place. You just installed the bootloader. Let RBUtil autodetect your iPod this time, and try again. Make sure you're using the newest version of RButil.

"Using the tabs"?

Did RButil successfully automatically detect your player?

So what did you mean by "using the tabs"?

Then your ipod is not mounted. What OS are you using? What Ipod? Did autodetection find the correct Ipod itself?
