RB Utility/FAT32 conversion problem
« on: July 15, 2008, 03:45:08 PM »
Hi, I'd rather use an automated function than manually install rockbox myself incase I end up putting a file where it shouldn't be (although that would be dumb, the real reason is that its a convenient little app and I'm lazy :P) - got a problem during installation, direct screenshot upload here: http://h4xr.org/ymob

The application "could not open ipod"?

I've searched about, unless im completely blind is this a common annoyance, or does anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

Help much appreciated.  :)

Well, you forgot to tell us vital information:
- what OS are you using?
- do you have administrator / root priviledges?
- was the Ipod detected by the autodetection functionality in the configuration dialog?
- is the Ipod mounted?

Some of these information is displayed in the About / System Info dialog (and you can copy and paste from that dialog).

My guess is that you're lacking the needed permissions for raw disc access.

Yep, sorry, wrote the post last minute - I'm running Leopard on a Macbook, I'm the administrator account and have the correct privileges as far as I'm aware, my ipod is the 30gb 5th gen  so I didn't auto-detect it I just selected it from the list (as it didn't recognize the ipod). The ipod is mounted.

???

This is a problem.

If the Ipod doesn't get detected automatically you will have problems installing the bootloader. Please check that Itunes is not running, it can interfere with the installation. Make sure the player gets autodetected.

Well after much hassle I installed it manually, converted my ipod to windows format etc. - rockbox installed fine on my ipod (using the utility and not selecting auto-detect) - except my itunes still recognizes the ipod as windows format - and if i restore it back to MAC format it will take me back to square one (note: I also tried both methods of partitioning the drive, through disk utility and through terminal, both failed).

I'm really at a loss.  :-\  :(
