MarcGuay:
I'm trying to gather some info on recording abilities and could use some confirmation/denial of the following info (actual testing required, not just the option available in the settings):

v = checked ok
x = not ok

has optical input (s/pdif)
---------------------
[v] iriver h1x0

has digital input (s/pdif)
------------------------------
[v] archos recorder v1

has line input
-----------------
[v] ondiofm
[v] archos recorder (v1 and v2/fm)
[v] iriver h1x0
[v] iriver h3x0
[v] m5
[v] x5
[v] ipod 5th gen

has mic input
----------------
[v] h10
[v] ondiofm
[ ] ipodcolour/4g
[v] archos recorder (v1 and v2/fm)
[v] m5
[v] x5
[v] iriver h1x0
[v] iriver h3x0

Thanks.

edited your post, I figured that was easier to keep the overview ;)

Edited the first post to add the information about the OndioFM - be carefull, the OndioSP does not have recording capabilities at all, so no microphone and no line-in.

Added info about the Archos Recorders - additionally started a new part for the s/pdif digital input of the V1 Recorders... Maybe the V2/FM Recorders have that too but this needs confirmation of someone else.

Also added M5 to the "has line input" list because it technically works the same as on the X5 - you need the so-called "subpack", a special connector with all the jacks. The only difference is that this subpack is not included in the standard delivery as it is for the X5.

May I ask what you need this for?

MarcGuay:
Thanks y'all.  I was looking over the recording capacities as it seemed that some targets had recording source options that weren't technically possible (the iPod nano with Mic-In for example).  Unfortunately, as usual, the problem is not as simple as I hoped it would be, as Rockbox seems to assume all targets that can record have Mic-In.

As far as I know iriver's optical input and output is standard S/PDIF. It just uses 3.5 mm jack (TRS) electric-optical combined connector also called mini-TOSLINK. The same connector is also often used by SONY and Apple.
