Tempo / playback speed

I feel I read the manual and features page completely, but don't see a way to speed up mp3s / podcasts so a 1 hour podcast may only take 50 min or some other time < 1 hour.

I have a load of podcasts / audio files in MP3 format that I want to listen to at a faster than normal pace.  Most any software mp3 player on the PC seems to be able to do that.  And a promotional portable MP3 player I got for free has a tempo setting to speed up playback.  But that device holds only 256 MB, eats batteries and has hard to use controls (it looks like: http://www.k-netsystems.net/images/MPC848.jpg).

Anyway, Sandisk and Zen say none of their units have speed controls (at least for MP3s).  I checked with Audible and it turns out the Sandisk I tried (c250) does have a speed control for aa / audible files only.

I would think with the popularity of podcasts, and shortness of time to listen to all of them, this feature would be common in portable MP3s?  Any chance you know of any?  The Apple nano I have also only speeds up audiobooks, not MP3s.

Is this feature in rockbox?  And if so, what's the cheapest mp3 player that I can get to run rockbox?  I have the Sandisk sansa, but it's v2 : (

Well I imagine he's asking for sped up playback without the pitch shift and that's definitely not in Rockbox at the moment. I believe it's been requested as a feature though.

It's available as a patch, works pretty well too.  http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/8894 if you're interested.

Why? This thread is really old and thus things have changed. No need to add a functionality again that was already added. (The linked task actually states that it has been added ... please check the information first before resurrecting such threads.)
