iriver wall charging goes into USB mode.
« on: July 12, 2008, 11:00:30 PM »
Before anyone jumps to the conclusion, I already set the option for no charging during USB.  So I've been having this problem for months now where I can't charge my iriver using the wall/car charger without Rockbox going into USB mode.  I even downloaded the latest version of Rockbox, and still nothing.  Has anyone here had this same problem?  Is there a solution?

You also don't mention which player you have.

System > Rockbox Info will show you; it's the build revision you're using (starts with an r).

The current version is r18026.  Give the newest a try.  I leave "Charge During USB Connection" set to "Yes".

No, that didn't work.  The thing is that it would only have this problem when I DID have the option set to charge during USB, but now the USB pops up EVERY TIME I charge my iriver, so that I can only listen to music when it has a full battery.

Okay, let's be absolutely clear:

Your are plugging in a cable to a port that is NOT one of the USB ports, and it is going into USB mode? This is not a wall charger that uses a USB-type cable to charge, right?

Correct, I am using a wall charger (strict transformer, no USB whatsoever) that goes straight into the five volt input of the player.

Then I hate to say it, but this sounds more like a hardware issue to me. Nobody else is experiencing it, so it's unlikely that it's a software one.

Hi,

does the same behavior happen in the original firmware?
I think too that it is a hardware issue. Check if the specifications (voltage, polarity and max. current) of the car charger you used match those of the original charger.

This thread describes a similar problem which was caused by using a wrong charger (the H300 series is really sensitive in that aspect):
http://www.misticriver.net/forums/h3xx-series-320-340/58096-usb-connected-always-when-charging.html

The misticriver forum is full of people describing problems with their player thinking that it is connected to USB when it isn't.

My H300 player doesn't do this either, so I'd agree this sounds like a hardware issue.   :(
