General Frustration

ShiningWolf:
I have an IPOD Video 30G. I seems that the best battery life I get is 1.5 hours. It also seems that if I turn off the IPOD, it still chews up battery life.

A couple of questions:
What general strategies/themes can I use to extend battery life
How do I turn the IPOD off so it does not use battery.

We would really like to continue using Rockbox, but the battery problems makes it impossible.

Thanks for any help.

LambdaCalculus:
It sounds to me like you just have a battery that's nearing the end of its useful life. My iPod video is getting around 11.5 hours of runtime with Rockbox, and it's not even the original battery anymore (I had it replaced with a higher capacity battery).

If you want to get a new battery for you iPod, try iFixit. They sell batteries for every model of iPod.

The LCD eats the most battery so the less it's on, the longer it'll last.

How are you shutting down now?  It shouldn't lose much, if any, while it's off.

ShiningWolf:
Shutting down by holding the play button

Well, technically, he means the backlight.   ;)
