Cannot detect my 4gb Micro SDHC
« on: July 07, 2008, 04:59:04 PM »
I have a Rockboxed Sansa C240, and I wanted some more space so I got a 4gb Micro SDHC. But for some reason my computer is not recognizing it. I connect my player to my computer, and there is the Sansa drive in which to add/remove songs, and Removable Disk (H:), but when I try to access Removable Disk (H:) (the Micro SD card) it just says 'Please insert a disc into drive H:.'

If anyone could help, it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Danny.

Rockbox supports the High Capacity cards but the e200/c200 version 1 (what you have) Sandisk firmwares don't, so you need to use a card reader/writer for now.

OK, I just got done trying this. When I tried to access my card I got some sort of I/O error, whatever that is. Is it possible that my card is defective?

BTW, when I put it in my player, under 'System' it says that I have 3.7XGB of space. So I don't thnik the card is faulty.

I believe that you could also copy and paste the files from the internal storage to the SDHC card whilst in Rockbox by using a long-click on the directories that you wish to copy/move.

Hope that helps.

Are you sure that the card reader that you're using supports SDHC?  Is the card formatted?

Hmm, that might be the problem. I have on of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HU2CCC/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top. I'm not sure if it supports SDHC, possibly not.

I can't format the card because my computer cannot detect it.

EDIT: That doesn't seem to be the problem. I've check online and this device supports SDHC. Any other ideas?

This search reveals that it is *not* in fact compatible with SDHC cards:

http://www.google.com/search?aq=f&hl=en&safe=off&q=MRW62E%2FS1%2F181+sdhc&btnG=Search

Ah, here is where the confusion lies:
Quote
Q: What formats exactly does this reader read? does it read the high capacity SD cards?

A: I finally got to the bottom of this. Sony has changed the spec on this unit but has kept the same model number. There is a manufactured date on the bottom of the unit. If the date is Nov07 or later it will support SDHC. The packaging will also indicate support for SDHC. Unfortunately you can't see the manufacture date or the packaging when you order it online.

Chronon fixed a typo.

I have a Sandisk e250 and after reading that RB supports expansion cards, I just ordered the Sandisk 4GB MicroSDHC Memory Card.

In this post it is said that Sandisk e250 does nto support it. Did i understand correctly? Please answer asap so that I can cancel my order if needed.
Thanks

Sorry I should have made it clear that I was talking about the Sansa v1 *firmware* not supporting it.  With Rockbox SDHC cards work fine.

What a relief. I've read that transfering the files to the microsd card is not that easy that you need some special reader. Is this true or does the mighty Rockbox have the capability of doing it?

Read posts 2 and 4 of this thread - they are both true and currently the only ways to do this.

There's a page called SansaFAQ in the wiki that you might find helpful.

Ok I re-read the SansaFAQ since I had done it before I installed RB. So you said that the trick on post 4 about a "long click" on the directories actually works for copying files from the Sansa memory to the microsd card. What exactly is a "long click" And please don't say it is the opposite of a short click.
