I've been using Rockbox with my iriver ihp-140 for years. LOVE it! But I was thinking hey, it's been 4-ish years since I installed it, so time to download a new build, take it for a spin.
When I installed today's build (July 5) manually (which is how I originally installed it), I got the playlist control access error that others have reported in forums here and at misticriver. The solution offered was to rename the file and let Rockbox rebuild it on reboot. But the playlist_control file just wasn't there. So I uninstalled, reinstalled, same result.
Next step was to reflash to the iriver firmware. Wow, I'd forgotten how ugly that thing is! I was thinking about giving up the Rockbox reinstall and just stick with the original -- no way, man.
So this time, to be sure I wasn't messing anything up, I used the Rockbox Utility to do a fresh install. Tried rebooting -- but I could only get to the iRiver boot. I looked at the files on the disk and saw that there was no "rockbox.iriver" file, so I tried it all again: uninstall RB, reinstall RB, no love, so flash back to iriver, etc.
I'm stuck. And I want my Rockbox back! Seriously, after 4-ish years of Rockbox, no way I can look at the iRiver fw. This went without a hitch in 2004, so I'm surely overlooking something really, really basic.
Of course ONE basic I overlooked was backing up before I tried upgrading firmware.

Many thanks,
Tim
