time for a new gigabeat
johnson4:
So I cracked my gigabeat F's screen and with no replacement parts in sight Im starting to think about what my next RB'ed player will be.
Im really interested in the gigabeat S, what is it's current status?(is it already listed somewhere)
Obviously I loved my gigabeat F so thats high on my list (if only i could track down an X)
My other thought was an iPod, Im just a lil wary of the processor speeds as I enjoy mpegplayer and rockboy. can anyone ,who has used both, comment on any noticeable pros/cons in performance?
Thanks for any help. I can't wait to be full rockboxed again

Simply put, the iPod Video is not going to give you good frame rates in MpegPlayer or in Rockboy.
The Nano, on the other hand, has no trouble driving its small screen full-speed for videos.

The Gigabeat S port's info can be found in the wiki:

and in the "New Ports" forum thread:

the iPod video does indeed have CPU speed problems for mpeg. The other ipods don't have that, but they have a much smaller screen.
I'm also a bit doubtful about rockboy playability on the ipod. The controls really aren't designed for general gaming. I don't really know though, as I never actually used rockboy

Im not sure why I could find that on ebay myself, oh well same price as a new F10 (which is what I have) Is it possible to plug a X screen into my F? and mod the case I guess(maybe Im getting greedy wanting that extra .2 in screen realestate)
If RB was installed on a gigabeat S right now, what could it do? Play music? plugins? mpegplayer?
the wiki doesn't really detail that kinda stuff, thanks
GodEater:
The only functionality missing from the Gigabeat S port is charging. Every other bit of Rockbox works fine.
