Using iPod after 'eject'
« on: July 04, 2008, 08:08:22 AM »
Hi,

Been using Rockbox for a few days and am very much liking it. But there's one thing I could do with my pre-Rockboxed 80G iPod Video that I can't now. That is, use the player following a USB connection without physically disconnecting.

Using the native firmware, all I had to do to use it after transferring some music (using gtkpod) was unmount it then type 'eject /dev/ipod' and I'd get the menus and functionality back without physically disconnecting, so I could leave it charging and check out the new music at the same time.

(/dev/ipod is a custom device symlink that works from a udev rule)

With Rockbox, I get the 'safe to disconnect' message, and that's it - without physically disonnecting I can't use the player.

Any way round this?

I believe that if you connect the player while holding Menu, you can use the player (although that technique doesn't work with all iPod models).

Obviously in your specific scenario, you would have to physically disconnect and reconnect the USB cable - unless someone knows another way.
