Advice please
« on: July 02, 2008, 03:30:40 PM »
I need to buy a new player and I'd love to be able to finally use rockbox. Which new player would you recommend? I listen mostly at work to audiobooks and was thinking of going flash based (zvm hdd just died) was almost bought the new Zen when it struck me that there's no Rockbox for it and probably never will be. I guess the Sansa E280 V1 but that kind of sucks as it limits the anout of MicroSD memory I can use. Any tips or thoughts on a newer player that is almost ready to being usable very much appreciated. Thank you, Mike

There's a buyer's guide in the wiki that you might find useful.

AFAIK the E200 can use SDHC cards of any capacity with rockbox.

I believe Rockbox can use SDHC cards on any target. However, the original firmware on most targets (including the Sansas) cannot use these cards (and so you'll need a card reader to put stuff on it).

That is true, but possibly only by coincidence.  The sansas are the only supported players with a (micro-)SD slot

Fitting sdhc support into *any* player using spare I/O lines on the micro would make the H100 RTC mod look like a picnic!

Yes, I'm joking, but then things mentioned in humor round here sometimes happen...
