sansa e200 or wait till e200v2?

Should I wait until rockbox for v2 is finished or should I try to find a v1?  v2 has a better processor or something is what I've heard.  Does the e200 play he-aac?  I read that somewhere but also heard it's not real-time playback somewhere else.  Would v2 likely be able to play he-aac?  Also, can v1 play most gameboy color games in real-time without a high frameskip?  If not, would v2 likely be able to handle that?

I can't answer most of your questions, but I definitely wouldn't hold your breath. I might not happen ever.

Finding v1's is not that hard. I just bought a v1 c250 on ebay tonight actually. All it takes is a few minutes of pasting messages to various sellers (I got 3 responses out of 3 .. all v1 models).

i dont know about he-acc but why not just use .ogg ? cause it's considered better than MP3 (especially at lower bit rates i.e. under 128kbps)

i have a e250 v1 myself and im pretty happy with it.

as for gameboy games... i only tested the original tetris on gameboy and it ran overall good but the controls on it are far from optimal and the sound skipped quite a bit... but overall i dont use the e250 for playing games... i basically use it for audio and more specifically .ogg support as that's overall the primary reason i use rockbox.

so like he said v2 might never happen and i cant answer if it's better hardware or not.

all i know is i think the e250 is a hard to beat digital audio player as it's all around solid quality and the price is quite good.... i got mine (refurbished, but looked brand new when i got it) on ebay for 47 dollars out the door.

Game Boy games: Turn off sound and put the frameskip at two or less and the game will run smoothly. As for controls, get creative. For example I put the "A" button on my record key to make Super Mario Land easier to play (since "A" makes Mario jump). Your milage may vary.

Of course, the thing isn't made for games; but there are more codec options that an all-you-can-eat smorgasbord. Take advantage of it, and if you somehow find your codec isn't supported, see if WinFF (www.winff.org) can work something out.
