ASCII talker
« on: July 01, 2008, 11:18:53 AM »
I have been just disallowed to read tech magazines while working. (It does impact my efficiency).

Now I would like to dump the text into a abc.txt file and copy to my Sansa e250 and play the text file.  Back in the '80s there were ascii talkers that worked pretty decent that one could hear and understand the spoken sounds.  Is there something like that available for the Rockbox (especially my Sansa ) ?

I have searched "ascii talker" "text to speech", but found very little references to what I am asking about.

I saw espeak, but it seems to be limited to ONE file in the root area.

I noticed mentions of app that converts *.txt files to my choice of mp3, wav, ogg etc.  It was mentioned to run in windows, is there something to do similar in linux ?

You could install the Wine binaries to run (most) Windows programs..... ;)

For Linux, there's festival and flite (festival-lite).  Looking in adept, I can see another, "recite".  There's probably more.
