Is my sansa e260 now a brick?

(1/2) > >>

taser:
Hello, all! New to this forum, so please be kind.

My rockboxed e260 was working fine. Then I messed with a good thing by updating the original Sandisk firmware, and then reinstalling the rockbox firmware and bootloader.

If the e260 is disconnected from the USB port, it works OK. However, when I connect the cable, I get the following:
RockBox Boot Loader
Version: 4.0
Sandisk Sansa e200
Partition 0: 0x0B 3814 MB
Partition 1: 0x84 20MB
Loading original firmware...
Trying firmware partition
BL mi4 size : EC00
of mi4 size: 596400
CRC32: 82FFA346
Model id: e200
Binary type RBOF

Can't load from partition
Bad checksum
Trying /System/OF.mi4
Can't load /System/OF.mi4
File not found
Trying /System/OF.bin
Can't load /System/OF.bin

If it's dead, lay it on me gently. But please let me know if there's a chance that I can get the awesomeness that is RockBox back in my life.

MarcGuay:
I highly doubt your player is bricked.  Can you still get into recovery mode?  If so, it's easy as pie to downgrade the original firmware back to where you were and reinstall Rockbox.  But I presume a better solution would be to update the bootloader to work with the latest Sansa firmware.

taser:
I'm able to enter recovery mode when it's disconnected, but I'm not sure how to proceed from there. Since I get the error messages mentioned when I insert the cable, I don't see how I can upload files to the device, either to replace the bootloader or return the device to factory defaults.

MarcGuay:
Read the Sansa Unbrick page in the wiki, linked off the e200 port index.  I think there's a misunderstanding about what Recovery Mode is.

Hopefully, the wiki will be available again sometime soon. All I'm getting right now is an HTTP 500 Internal Server Error whenever I click on the link.
