Newbie Questions - You'll know the answers but I don't :-(
« on: June 25, 2008, 01:05:58 AM »
Hi,  My name is rich and I just got an E260 from Woot.

I installed Rockbox so I could use big Micro SDHC cards (is big Micro an oxymoron??)  anyway I transferred a BUNCH of music to the E260 with Windozes Media Player (WMP) as I don't have any uSDHC cards yet.

I don't see the files w/RB - so I renamed MUSIC on the E260 to Goodies - still didn't see them with RB.

Perzactly what should I do so I see the files w/RB???????  I know that as a newbie, I shouldn't complain - but that really sounds like a BIG BUG

Also, I have been too lazy to read the manual (RTFM), how do I get RB to use the original SW's database - or how to I get it to make its own??

As per the guidelines, don't use non-standard abbreviations and netspeak like "w/", "u", "thx", etc.

The files are probably just hidden.  Change the Show Files setting, or unhide them.  Some Rockbox targets' original firmwares will re-hide certain folders when you run them.  I can't remember if the e200 is one of these.

Why should I assume you will bother to read this reply then?

Instructions on using the database are in the manual.  There are titled sections so you don't have to read the whole thing, though it's not even that long anyway.

And why should someone point you to the SansaFAQ which does explain exactly this issues? You didn't even need to read the manual for this, plus you are blatantly violating our posting guidelines.  >:(

I think if you were able to do this the player was in MTP mode and won't work with Rockbox.
You must have the player in MSC mode.

I appreciate your point, Febs, but....

You cannot use the OF's database. In Rockbox, hold down the [SELECT] button when you have Database highlighted, then choose Initialize Now. Then wait for a few minutes, then reboot. When it tells you it's "Committing Database", it's done.

You must have the player in MSC mode.

And simply switching to MSC is not enough. I recommend that you format the player, reset settings, power off and back on, switch to MSC, then plug it in and begin transferring music.

I accidently "erased" all my music from my Sansa. I could see them in the PC but not the Sansa.  I tried to "unhide" the files and directories but no go with Sansa.

Then I stumbled on the setting "show all files", YES! now I remember reading about that in the manual. Setting that put them all back to see in the Sansa. All good once again.

The Sansas hide a number of folders (such as "MUSIC") every time you boot into the original firmware. Rockbox does not show hidden folders unless you change that setting. :)
