Sansa battery life with Rockbox
« on: June 23, 2008, 05:49:33 PM »
I've browsed around a little and I think I've found what I'm looking for but not totally sure:

Does rockbox actually lower the battery life of a Sansa e200 player?

I've left mine plugged in and charging for about a day now, but when I disconnect it, it always says it only has about 60% or less (10 hours or less) battery life left.  What's up with that?  Can I not fully charge it with rockbox?

well i was sorta asking the same question about battery life.

http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/SansaRuntime ...and they linked me there.

just make sure your using a new version of rockbox cause it appears older version's used up alot more power vs the stock sansa firmware.

cause if you notice on that webpage i linked above the rockbox is lower than stock but the test the particular person ran was supposedly before they made some code changed which supposedly increased battery life.

here is a quote from there...

"e260     16:28:47 (rockbox runtime)     14:08:41 (original sansa firmware runtime)     Repeat album (MP3 192 kbps 75 MB)     2008-02-11     SVN 16287, Both with settings reset, Rockbox with Cabbie v2 WPS, both with the same album on repeat, and with hold on therefore screen off. Both were measured by plugging the headphone out into the H140 and recording it :) AlexParker"

You should charge in the original firmware for now, yes. Rockbox doesn't set the charging circuitry into a higher power mode, so it's really not charging the battery much if it's running. This will be fixed, but care is being taken to make sure the right settings are chosen for the charging circuitry.

That's me, and yes, I can confirm that at least for the conditions listed I got significantly longer runtime in Rockbox than for the Sansa firmware.  However, as others have said, for now charge in the Sansa firmware.
