Why not explain how far you've gotten? What have you downloaded? Where do you get stuck?

You don't need any source files.. where did you read that you do?

The easiest way to install is to use Rockbox Utility, as documented in the manual under "Automated Installation" in the "Installation" section.

bottom line = this... (either use automated installer like he said above or.....)

get this file... http://download.rockbox.org/bootloader/sandisk-sansa/sansapatcher/win32/sansapatcher.exe

then run it once the Sansa is in MSC MODE (Settings > USB > MSC) after that part installs and is successfull you then copy the .rockbox folder to the root of your Sansa player and it will work.

once your stuff is in MSC mode and connected to the pc the entire process literally takes less than 5minutes.

if what i said still sounds complex your probably best off using the automated installer like he said above.

It's very helpful to quote error messages verbatim, but it seems to me like you've installed the bootloader but not the build.  Are you using Rockbox Utility or following the instructions in the manual?

Error writing to disk: the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error
[err] short write in add_bootloader
[err[ --install failed.

Try a different USB port (the ones in the back of the computer are more reliable) or a different cable.

P.S. It's also very helpful to say exactly _what_ is giving you the message.  Saying things like "it loaded but..." leave a lot of room for interpretation.

Go to the wiki on the left, click on the SansaE200Port page, and read everything there and everything that links from there.

when plugging in the USB cable to charge or transfer files. i always turn the player off first and then plug in the cable as the bootloader will automatically detect the USB cable and auto boot into the original sansa firmware... if you plug in the cable once rockbox is already loaded odds are stuff will act up.

and as always... if your Sansa player every acts like it froze up... just hold down the power button for 30ish seconds and it almost always will force the player to power down.
