I've been looking at rockbox and only a few thing holding me back
« on: June 19, 2008, 10:22:18 PM »
1.  The battery life is killer, i've always been a nut about battery life.  I like my battery to last long and not to have to charge my ipod every night.  Is the battery life improving?  what are some things yo ucan do to improve battery life.   at the moment I get about 18 hours of audio playback time.  will i get anywhere near that with rockbox?

2. I know it doesnt play nice w/ video so if I want to boot back to normal firmware does it drain extra battery to restart the device>?

3. is the ipodlinux bootloader safe?  the one that presents you with the option of os whenever you restart.

1) Rockbox gets similar battery life to the original firmware now. As well, it is not actually harmful to charge your battery every night, and in fact long, full charges are more harmful to the battery.

2) Rebooting will drain some battery, but watching video drains so much more as to make the amount insignificant.

3) We do not provide support for the iPodLinux bootloader, and while it may work to boot Rockbox now, there is no guarantee of continued functionality in the future. We only test against our own bootloader, and update it as necessary.

Doesn't make a big difference, but you might as well use the utility since it has a GUI.

Also, if you're going to ask about battery life, it might be a good idea to mention which ipod you have.
