iPod main menu customization?

Is there any way to change what appears on the main menu, like with the regular ipod menu?
I am wondering mostly so that i can get the record option off the main menu and not accidently select it and have to reboot because of the bug that stops playback.

No, and customizable menus are not wanted.

(You can customize the menu if you adjust the source code and build yourself)

A much more appropriate solution, of course, would be fixing it not to break playback after you enter that menu.

Because then supporting Rockbox would become a nightmare, since we'd never be able to tell people where in the menus to go to look for feature X, or setting Y.

You could you know, if you had an option to reset to default menu and insisted this was done before they post, you could then always give replies based on the default menu.

Like how currently everyone who has a problem updates to the very latest version, resets their settings and confirms the bug is still there before coming on the forum - like we insist that they do?

If the customization had to be done in a separate config file (like those .wps files wps for themes), a few more advanced users would bother doing it, so I guess this would not be so much of a problem.

Well you would just have to make sure the menu customisation did not extend  to the menu setting one. i.e. it would always displayed.

I imagine you could tell someone to delete /.rockbox/menu.cfg and reboot, to reset their menus to default, even if their menus were messed up.

Being able to customise the menus would be an added value, though not something I'd be particularly bothered about either way.

... and general consensus is that the added code complexity and support issues aren't worth the effort and code.

Feel free to create your own build with that functionality added. Requests for customizable menus (as well as customizable buttons) have been rejected in the past and will be in the future.
