iPod Video 5.5G and Solisto Car-Adapter

Hi,

first of all thanks for the great application. I have used rockbox on my Sansa e200 before and i really like it. Last week i have bought an iPod Video 5.5G 80GB and would love to use rockbox on this player too. To use the iPod in my car, i have bought a solisto car-adapter (http://www.solisto.de/index.php?page=beschreibung&numpro=extra&lang=en) which works perfectly with the original firmware. Unfortunately i was not able to use this adapter with rockbox. Has anybody successfully connected this adapter with rockbox? If not, is it possible to implement this functionality?

Hi,

i have read the wiki pages but i haven't found the Solisto. Unfortunately i have no idea how this technically works and how much effort is necessary to get this working with rockbox. Is there any chance to implement the support for this adapter?

I am not a very used to programming but i would try if there is a chance to implement this on my own.

The Solisto is not there because you're the first person to report on it. It would be lovely if you could add it to the chart so other people could see it doesn't work currently before they go out and buy one.

The wiki page attempts to explain what needs to be done to support these things, but perhaps not clearly enough. In short :

1) Someone needs to finish support for the serial port presented by the "dock" port on the bottom of the ipods. This has been started, but isn't ready for inclusion in the main line of Rockbox yet.

2) Someone then needs to write support for the Apple Accessory Protocol (AAP)as far as it is understood. The good folks at the ipodlinux project have documented it a good deal, but it's not 100% yet.

3) Someone needs to interface the AAP to the Rockbox code so that all the remote control features work properly.

This is NOT a trivial piece of work.

Thanks for the explanation, it seems i will have to use the aux-in in the meantime.

I will add Solisto to the wiki as soon as i have all hardware information from my adapter.
