Screen Mimic Possible?
« on: June 17, 2008, 07:20:41 PM »
Hi, I hope this is the right place to put this. But is there anyway for me to use my iRiverH320's screen to display Windows from another machine via USB? My goal is to use it for a mini-projector, long story.

Thank's for any advice.

Edit: I do have programming experience so I don't mind learning how to use Rockbox and write my own plugin, but can someone just tell me if this would be possible? I assume it's pretty possible to do though USB since webcams and all do that, but can Rockbox get data though USB in realtime?

Possible : yes, but the amount of work involved would just be astronomical.

The H300 (and H100) use a dedicated (Cypress) USB interface device that sits on the ATA bus between the CPU and the HDD

Unlike other players (where the Rockbox USB stack is being developed) the CPU doesn't talk direct to the USB so I'm guessing it is impossible - unless there is some special diagnostic mode where the CPU can talk to the USB device.

From what I've heard this could be possible using the secondary USB port on the H300 that is used by the OF for USB-on-the-go or MTP communication.

Good point - I'd failed to notice the H320 in the OP.

Oh yes - I forgot about that port (I used it once to download pictures from a camera to demontrate to my beloved that the H300 was a worthwhile upgrade ;-) - I have no idea how that is driven - maybe it's possible through that (I know very little about USB, but wont that be a 'host' port - can you have two host ports talking to each other?)

Ah, well thanks for all the feedback. I think I've found an alternative though so no worries. Keep on rockin'.
