Iriver and Vista
« on: June 17, 2008, 05:59:33 PM »
I am curious if anyone else has had trouble with vista and an older "H" series iriver.  I cannot get my vista machine to recognize the player, but it connects just fine to my other machine running xp.  The iriver site says vista doesn't need drivers for it as it is an "mtp" compatible device.  It is only a nuissance for me since I have another machine to access the player with, but it would be nice to connect to my vista machine too.  I am in the process of reading all I can about rockbox and I am very excited to get it installed on my player very soon.

This forum is for Rockbox related questions. Not questions about the original firmware.

The H100 and H300 series players are not MTP devices, but MSC. But that just makes it even more unlikely that you'd need drivers. It should just show up as a drive.

I have no problems connecting my H320 up to Vista, but I haven't used the iriver firmware in years, so there might be some problem with that. But I strongly doubt it.

However, if it's an H10 (and by the way, tjmoffa, you never told us), then that is indeed an MTP device. However, there is a little trick to getting it to appear as a UMS device (from this page in the manual, scroll down a little bit until you see "UMS mode and the UMS trick".)

Once you get Vista to see your device, go ahead and Rockbox it. ;)

It's an H320, sorry for that, but thanks for the info, much appreciated
