Renaming 4-letter tracks: cant play on itunes.

(1/1)

roscoe:
When I create  a playlist, and decide to view it, all i see is these random four letter word. I saw another post sayin to use 'The Godfather' program to rename the files, so i did.

But when I rename them, somehow I can't play them on Itunes anymore, there's just an exclamation point thats beside the track and doesn't play it.

How can i fix this?

I have a 2gen 6G ipod mini.

Chronon:
A playlist is just a list of paths to files you would like to play.  iTunes obfuscates the filenames and keeps a database of short filenames cross referenced by metadata tags.  If you change the filenames then the iTunesDB will no longer point to the right files and playback will be broken, as you have observed.  You either have to live with the obfuscated filenames, or sacrifice playback in the Apple firmware for sensible filenames that you can make sense of.

If you're concerned about iTunes (a desktop application) not playing the files then the simple answer is to use a different desktop jukebox application.
