On that very page, at the bottom is the most recent test (which I did):

Quote
e260
Rockbox:  16:28:47
OF:  14:08:41
Repeat album (MP3 192 kbps 75 MB)
2008-02-11
SVN 16287
Both with settings reset, Rockbox with Cabbie v2 WPS, both with the same album on repeat, and with hold on therefore screen off. Both were measured by plugging the headphone out into the H140 and recording it :) AlexParker

Granted it is 4 months old now, but things should have only got better not worse since then.  You will note Rockbox got significantly better runtime than the OF.  I measured both by recording the output on my H140, and thus the results are accurate.

@ BigBambi ...

i assume the e260 is pretty much the same as the e250 besides the obvious 2GB vs 4GB thing?

if that is it's cool since you where testing 192kbps MP3's and since im using 45kbps .ogg i would assume it's safe to say that i will get even better battery life assuming my battery is in good running order?

cause he was saying in a previous post i should expect to get around 20hours or so at the 45kbps bit rates im using.

just curious as to what your thoughts are ;)

Yep, other than storage they are the same.

On this page are some tests with comparisons of codec performance:

http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/CodecPerformanceComparison

Although the e200 results are a bit out of date, you can see that at that time low bitrate vorbis decoded more efficiently than higher bitrate MP3, so all else being equal, 45 kbps OGG should give longer runtime than 192 kbps MP3.  Of course, as you say, the actual battery life will depend on age etc.

... but your EQ presets etc. will draw some addidtional current, thus decreasing your battery life.

That's actually not a 100% guarantee. Though in the case of Vorbis it should be true, if a codec can run unboosted on a player, it may be possible for it to run unboosted with some EQ, in which case there wouldn't be a penalty.

well i think i do have my EQ off but i did manually adjust the treble/bass a little higher than default... so i would assume cause of the bass i would lose a little battery life?

Only a little. :) The simple fact is: the more of the CPU it uses, the more power it consumes. Period.

ok, i have another question which dont seem to be answered through the installation process of a e260r.

cause i just installed Rockbox to a e260r earlier (not mine, it was my cousins) and i was wondering can i delete the "pp5022.mi4" and "OF.mi4" files after Rockbox is up and running? , or are those needed for Rockbox to continue running properly.

you can see what im talking about here... http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/SansaE200RInstallationFromWindows

You still need the OF for USB mode so don't delete it.

Yes. (Well you can touch that file but you definitely shouldn't)

can i delete the "pp5022.mi4" ?

or is it one of those things i cant touch anything related to what it says in the installation instructions for the e2xxR.

thanks for your time

EDIT: and also, i think i might have found a minor bug... but i cant seem to narrow it down and get it consistent but basically when playing .ogg files ( i never tested MP3's ) like i put albums in there own folders etc and when playing the music... well, you know how it shows the 'next song' name etc well sometimes it shows the song names but sometimes it dont... i aint sure if it does it on the database AND 'files' section of the Sansa e250 player but i did notice it happens quite often but not always and it might be with certain folders etc.

ill have to play around with it to see if i can narrow it down..... i would probably have reported this in the bug section but it wont help much if i cant get it consistent right?

EDIT: i aint sure but 'so far' when i load the 'directory cache' ( directory cache > yes ) in memory i dont notice it occasionally not displaying the 'next song' when viewing the main window when a song was playing like it used to.

does that help narrow it down as to a possible bug?
