MR-100 battery life?
« on: June 10, 2008, 06:37:16 PM »
I picked up an MR-100 from eBay a few weeks back for pretty cheap.  The auction advertised it as having poor battery life so I picked up a new battery (Cameron Sino 750 mAh) to replace it.  However, I am only getting about 6 hours of playback time with the new battery.

What kind of battery times do other people see?  I checked out the voltage_calibration spreadsheet from the wiki, but that doesn't seem to provide any sort of timescale that I can see.

=======

There is a wiki page with only one entry on it here: http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/MRobeRuntime

It looks like my 6+ hours might not be anomalous.  I guess I will run a battery_bench and add my results to the wiki.

I've bought a second hand MR-100 from ebay as well. I wonder if I could take any battery that has 3.7V and a charging voltage of 4.2V and fits into the case? I would like to have a battery with about 1500mAh or even more.

Where could I find such a battery. I'm from Germany so a european shop would be nice;)

Best regards,
Simon

Yes.  In principle, you can.  The important factors are the physical dimensions and the voltage.

Googling for "m:robe 100 batteries" may turn up results, or you can try eBay.

As Chronon mentioned, look for Cameron Sino batteries (as a user of them I must shamelessly plug them now and say that they're excellent batteries. ;))

Well I tried googling and ebay but i could only find batteries with 750mAh.

Do you think it's worth signing up for cameronsino.net to broth browse their products?

Maybe you can find a battery with the same voltage and dimensions.  This seems to be people's approach with replacement batteries for the Toshiba Gigabeat.  The iPod 4g has a battery with almost identical dimensions and people have found that they can use this battery in place of the Toshiba one.  There's info on this process at GigabeatBatteryUpgrade on the wiki.

In that spirit, maybe you could carefully measure the dimensions that the battery needs to fit into and try to search based on that (rather than specifically for the m:robe).
