Ipod mini v1 vs v2

IIRC at one time the ipod mini 1st and 2nd generation shared the same build.
Am I wrong or when did the builds for these separate?

The hardware for the Mini 1G and 2G differs slightly which requires different setup sequences. I'm not aware of any combined build for those (but the build for 1G and 2G is identical)
