Lavenia Rebirth - WIP
« on: June 08, 2008, 06:03:30 PM »
RELEASED:
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/WpsIriverH105Gb

Hi all,
i am updating the Lavenia theme i made a long time ago for the H10. It was broken nearly for over a year now and impossible to get it back working. Viewports with conditionals now seem to work pretty well and the theme can be fixed. That's just a WIP screen, in the final version i will fix some glitches and trying to give it a little different look. I plan to add also some new functionalities. Any comments (especially of the H10 users) are welcome.

JUST A NOTE: Dont ask me if you wanna port or modify this theme... I comment the wps script the best as possible and i would love to see modifications... the full package (bitmaps and wps-code is coming soon)

Saludos!

1. Screen:  Album Art
2. Screen:  Fast Forward if Album Art found
3. Screen:  No Album Art
4. Screen:  No Album Art + Hold switch (displays a big clock)
Stars: Left Side = battery, Right Side = volume

Special behaviours:
In Album Art Mode there is alternating scrolling information at the bottom. If hold switch is activated the other view is presented (More information). The info line at the bottom holds in these cases (No AA or AA with hold) only the next Title.

OK , already the first update... I added another progressbar to the screen during Fast-Forward or Rewind... also som extra information which is useful in this case...

Stars or dots? hmmm??

Ok started with the screens if hold switch is activated... Still isnt that what i wanted but i use already all possible maximum viewports. I asked if its possibe to raise that number and wait until a decicion before i go on.

really nice

just one thing, no battery level? imho, maybe instead of codec, or if necessary even instead of the clock...

Hey Angry, nice cool rebirth indeed!

You going to pull the ol' "extra info-box" on switching hold when using album art? That - together with the big counter when seeking - were the brilliant hacks that made the original so great.

Hi Paul, yes the "information on hold" screen will come back... Indeed i am thinking a lot about the given information on the screens also on the others.

  • What's more useful: Scrolling lines which scroll all the time or alternating sublines?
  • Maybe i should switch the area with Bitrate and display more information about the next song and put Bitrates down to the scroling line
  • What information is really the most important: Remaining battery time was always missing and is quite important
  • Would you like to see a big time clock if hold key is pressed? Or is that totally unimportant

Any comments or ideas are welcome

Well, for what it's worth (*my* preferences) :

  • *I* prefer alternating sublines to scrolling, but then scrolling will be un-evitable anyway given the smallish, square-ish screen of the H10 5gb...  I guess alternating sublines that do scroll when too long..  :p
  • Because I almost always listen to albums, I don't really care about 'next song'. In fact, I had removed it from the subline when I last used your WPS.
  • It's unfortunate that we couldn't write to the screen in vertical types : the codec icon would be prime target for replacement with battery time.  Maybe you can find some room in the 'extra info' box..?
  • The clock is one of the feature I love (I don't have a wristwatch). However, I think it's good enough as it is now but, then again, you surprised us with some great functionalty before so..
  • I like the stars, but you're the artist so you get to make the choice and statement (if ever there's one to be analyzes out of this ;) )

But anyway, if you comment it good, I'm pretty sure it's one prime candidate to personal modifications.  For example, I care more about musicianship than encoding so would probably replace a few codec/bitrate lines with artists/year stuff.

(how difficult was bringing multifont in sync with svn+condVP ?)

I'm definitely gonna try to port this one to the Sansa c200s. (GREAT job on the comments in the WPS, very helpful!) If someone beats me to it, though, it's cool. (It'll probably take me a month to figure the editing out.) ;)

Take care... all the Lavenia WPS Scripts around arent properly working... The easiest way to port it would be to take the WPS Script i'll post in the WIKI page.. The theme will be called Lavenia Rebirth. Wont take too much time i think until its ready... The editing is quite simple if you understood what each tag does. SO go for it as soon as its ready... If you have any questions i'll answer them!

I dont have in mind which revision i used exactly but it was very simple. Some rejects which were easy to fix just by finding the proper place of the rejected code...

Ok i think i'll try to add the following because you opinion nearly totally reflects what i thought:
- Big Clock if hold switch is activated... (and if possible battery time will be showed at small clock position)
- alternating scrolling sublines
-  hmm, the bitrate section could also be compressed a bit and used for battery... we'll see

UPS!!!: At the moment i ran into the problem that i already used the max amount of viewports... I am trying to reduce the ones i needed... to get a viewport for the "during-hold-button-active-screen" ;-)

the one thing I didn't like about the old lavenia was the lack of the repeat mode and shuffle mode.

That shouldnt be a problem ;-) Will be included!

Will first update to current SVN and conditional-viewport-patch... Max numbers has been increased to 24 so i can go on...

Sorry... yes it has been a long time... Had my final exams now and furthermore a huge project at work was nearly before its collapse... So i had to focus on that two things now. Tomorrow i can succesfully close the project. Friday i will just relax but then i will continue inishing the theme. Will be posted here.. Saludos!
