Installation on E250r

I need help. I have a E250R v1. I have tried to install the Sansa bootloader patching but it will not start with the hold on and the select held down. It just lock up. I have also tried the rockbox utility but it does not auto detect or manual detect any Sansa.  I am a newbie to the Sansa but thought I was OK with a computer. Can anyone please help with installation?

Those are the instructions that I have been trying. I can not get the Sansa to start in the manufacture mode (hold on with select button pushed and plugging into the computer). It just gets the blue light on the key pad on and locks up after that. Any suggestions?
