Yes, if I remember correctly it was added after reports such as http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=13777.0 which is not the only one. I repeat - my c250 always behaves like described there and it seems some e200s do so too. Maybe there are differences depending on what type of card is inserted (mine is a plain microSD, no SDHC) or even the original firmware version.

Perhaps we should collect a list of player, cad type, card maker, card size, and firmware version to see where the commonality is?

I have an e260, a Sansa 8gb microSD card, and it works great!  If shut the player down before I connect the usb cable to the computer it boots up the original system, with the card in the player.  I have not had any trouble, and have been using the hcsd card for about a month now.
As a bonus, I actually like the Rockbox interface better, it is much easier to see the display.

The problem described in the linked post sounds to me more like a issue of database refresh more than anything.  Before the database disable worked, my 8gb sansa would preform the same way with or without a card.  I believe the sansa only tries to establish a data connection for a short period of time, and can not connect until after the database refresh.  So unless you only have a small amount of music on the player, if it refreshed the DB it will not connect.  I certainly cant speak for every case, but it doesn't sound like a SD issue to me.

It can't be related to the database refresh on my c250 because... the c200 original firmware (at least my version) refreshes its database immediately after USB disconnect without reboot which is also the reason why suppressing it does not work. I do believe though that it is a timing issue in the sansa OF, maybe made more apparent through the Rockbox bootloader, because I sometimes have this problem while connecting the c200 without a card to an old laptop with USB1.1 ports. Maybe there are more interdependencies between hardware and the real reason is not easy to find out.

But I don't understand the discussion. Regardless of the reason - what's wrong with a hint that in case you have problems establishing the data connection one possible reason could be an inserted microSD card? For me removing it solves the issue in 95% of the times. And if you think that the issue is database refresh related on the e-series - I believe there are still some versions of the e200 OF where the disable does not work for some reason and this note could help someone.

Ah, ok, I understand about the c200, and the point is also well taken that it doesn't hurt to have the hint one way or another.
