Charging problem with Sansa E250
« on: June 03, 2008, 08:43:04 PM »
When I use a USB charger and the OF, my Sansa charges.
With RockBox it plays just fine, but gets almost no charge.
The charger is not a computer, just a powerpack.
The chager does charge a Zune and a Blackberry, so I know it is good.

I assume that RockBox only goes to 500MA mode when it sees a computer.
The other devices go to 500MA mode when no computer is found.

Any chance RockBox could be changed to work with a USB charger?

Thanks.

Rockbox charging for the Sansas is still a work in progress.  I've never had it pull a noticable charge so I stick to the original firmware.

Here's the task:

What about this?  Seems like it should be working.

2007-11-23 New USB stack with limited capability. Currently it only requests full charging power. Ignore driver popups from Windows.

Did this feature skip the Sansa e2xx?

That means it requests full charging power from the host computer. What it *doesn't* do on the e200 is actually provide that power to the battery for charging.

lol That really made me laugh.  Any chance all that extra power could be put to use?

I did, but I don't want to learn how to do patches.  Looks like I would need to build from source.  Seems like a pain since you all made daily updates too easy.

I also have a charging problem, with my Sansa E260...

Mine won't charge at all, original firmware or Rockbox. It used to charge with the OF, but I updated Rockbox today (6-5-08). Now it acts like it's charging, the indicator will alternate as usual, but it never gets beyond 'very low'.

It's recognized by the computer, I can sync, etc, but it'll never actually charge.

Anyone else have this problem?

There's two parts to Rockbox, the bootloader and the build. We almost never change the bootloader unless we have to, and the build can't in any way affect the original firmware's performance (if you turn on from power off, and boot the original firmware, the build never gets run). So updating should no be the cause of your problem. Have you tried a different cable?

I updated the bootloader the same day I updated Rockbox, so it might be the bootloader. :-\

The cable I used works perfectly with my Rockbox-less Sansa E280. The cables for the E200 series are identical.

So the Sansa firmware displays the "Charging" screen but doesn't actually gather a charge?

Swap the batteries between the 2 mp3 players.  See if the problem stays with the battery.

Exactly.

Yeah, I was going to try that, with reservations, though. If player one is frying batteries, better to have one good battery than none. *shrug* :-\

Exactly.

Then it's pretty safe to say that it's a hardware issue that has nothing to do with das Rockbox...
