"Next track" takes seconds to switch.
« on: June 02, 2008, 12:45:08 AM »
Whenever I go to next track in the first few seconds of a song, it often takes seconds for the track to switch. This is extremely frustrating, as I rarely listen to albums and usually switch songs based on the first few seconds. What's going on? (iAudio X5L, latest stable firmware/release)

That is probably because the disk needs to spin up to read the playlist and the next file. Try to enable the directory cache.

Actually, I tried formatting the disc, and it seems to have fixed it. Perhaps my data was badly fragmented.

I think what bothers me the most about track transitions, actually, is that the previous song keeps playing while the track changes, which no other player does. Is there any way to disable this?

Go General Settings / Playback/ Crossfade:

Quote
This setting enables a cross-fader. At the end of a song, the song will fade
out as the next song fades in, creating a smooth transition between songs.

Well it's the feature I probably like the most.

Sometimes the current track remains playing after I push a button to change to a different track.  I guess this happens when the track I'm switching to needs to be read from the hard drive, and it continues until the hard drive is able to supply data.

This is a problem because it appears like the button press had no effect.  I sometimes press it again, which can for example skip more tracks.  It was especially a problem when switching from an Archos V2 Jukebox Recorder to a 5G iPod because the iPod hard drive takes longer to spin up.

In that case, one thing you could do is enable the beep feedback... Check out 'Beep Volume' under playback settings.
