I don't think its possible to make an actual USB to anything but USB cable, so your "mini usb to A/V cable" is probably not a real USB cable, but rather something else using a similar connector.

cassette deck:
i tried it on my camera and it worked as a slide show on my TV like it would normally as if through the camera I'm not sure how much speed its capable of but it seemed to do slide shows fine. if it couldn't handle video would it be possible to make one?

Yeah thats definitely not a USB cable.

its MINI. even if that wouldnt work couldnt i get a usb to vga and hook that up to a vga to rca?

Your camera is designed to send an analog signal to the pins corresponding to the RCA jacks in that cable when you put it in playback mode.  A standard USB device only sends and receives digital signals.  You shouldn't expect to be able to plug that cable into any other device and have NTSC video come out of the other end of the cable.

Incidentally, I just bought a cheap camera today that plays this multi-use game with the USB connector.
