dock question
« on: June 01, 2008, 07:25:13 PM »
i own the gigabeat and i was wondering what i would have to do in order to increase the volume while the gigabeat was was running audio through the dock beacause theres a very noticeable difference in sound volume when plugged in through the dock than the gigabeat itself. thanks

The dock output is at a line level. You should be plugging amplified speakers into it, which should have a volume control. To increase the loudness, simply turn up this volume control.

If its quieter, your device may not actually be a line in, in which case you should probably use the headphone jack.

It's output at a "Line out" level. It's output how loud it's *supposed* to be output. If you're turning the volume up too high on the main unit, yes, you can get it louder than a line out level, but this can (and in many cases will) cause distortion.

You may also have a problem of an impedance miss-match between the line output and the input of your amp.  If your amp has an unusually low input impedance, then the line out of the gigabeat may indeed give a lower volume level than normal.  You might need a preamp between the two with an emitter follower output to match a low impedance.

what would be the best way to do that?
