Sansa c250: Broken Headphonejack + soldering = still not workin

(1/1)

Beliar:
Hello!
My Sansa c250's headphone broke after a year, while working great besides that.
In retrospect, I think I stil had warantee... Well I just opened it and soldered the contacts. It worked fine after that. But I think thats maybe one or two months ago and now its broken again (I think I fell asleep on my mp3 player :(  ).

Again, I soldered it. But this time its not working. I have tryed it 5 times or so, I also tryed to remove the solder with a pump (did NOTHING) and desoldering wick and put some new on it. Won't work. And I cant desolder it completely, but anyway I dont know where to get a new headphonejack. This one has already some burning marks (damn these contacts are small).

Oh and I also tryed to clean the clip inside the jack and I tryed to bend it a bit.

Now I don't only hear on one ear only, but most of the time nothing :(

Any idea how to stil fix it? Could I have broken it by heating it up too much? (one of the contacts above the soldering area looks a bit "corroded" or something...)

Buying a new one after a year hurts a bit, especially because I heard the new Sansa e200 v2 (which I would buy), are not rockbox compatible :,(

Any help appreciated,
Thanks in advance,
Beliar

Strife89:
Have you checked to make sure your headphones themselves (not the jack) are okay?

The ones that came with my Sansa quit working properly (sounds just like your situation, where it's either one earphone or nothing) after 4 months. >_<

I haven't tested it on my broken Sansa c200, but I'm guessing that even if the headphone jack isn't working, it may be possible to rewire the phone jack off the dock connector. The Sansa dock connector isn't fully understood, but the pinout is listed on the PortPinAssignment Twiki page. I also found this, which seems to claim that there might be more to this than a simple rewire.
Hope this helps, and let me know how it turns out.

But if all else fails, you can get plenty of used/factory refurbished v1 c250s on ebay for ~30 USD.
